The 5 Ws of VELVET

- BY AYODEJI ROTINWA

WHAT

the sleekest fabric ever created that speaks sophistication, class, and all the nice things in other flowery language that you wouldn’t mind at all being described with.

WHO

for an international man of style. lol. we just wanted to sound fancy, not really. any man with a svelte figure can rock the velvet trend. if you’re a bit fleshier around the torso you may want to stay away from this look as the fabric itself creases easily and you don’t want to end up looking like a ball of crumpled, lush paper.

WHY

it’s a statement every single time, whatever piece of velvet you choose to incorporate into your outfit from a tuxedo, to a suit with velvet lapels, to shoes, to even a bomber jacket. if you are looking to make a bit of a style splash and not at all averse to drawing some attention to yourself, go right ahead.

WHERE

black-tie gatherings, formal occasions or any event with a required dress code. velvet doesn’t exactly pass for casual so no, you cannot wear it to the club or the country club for sunday brunch. it is for suited to private dinners, ceremonies, the kind of event everywhere reaches for their pearls, gold plated accessories and have the driver prepare that car that cost the family the annual vacation the year it was bought.

WHEN

when there’s an impression to be made, someone to make jealous, a woman to woo, heads to turn…
