Are yOu cALLed TO GreATNeSS?

ITONye cOLe ’d never heard of Tony Nathan and why should I have? I’m neither American nor a fan of their brand of football so could be excused my ignorance in that regard. However, cruising high up at 35,000 feet, about to settle down for lunch, I flicked through the selections of movies and came upon one I hadn’t watched called Woodlawn. The title wasn’t inspirational nor catchy but something about the theme of the movie caught my attention and I settled for it. Nothing prepared me for the simplicity of the message. A take showcasing the power of love over hate and light over darkness.

The story in itself was remarkably a true one and as it unfolded, the struggles of one young boy, his team, his high school and town against racial prejudice brought hope to countless others while setting off a revival that healed a country. What was truly memorable was capturing for posterity, the history and actions or ordinary men and women who stepped up to do extraordinary things then putting it all out there for generations later to get inspired by to then face the terrors of their prejudices time and time again. One boy, listening to his inner convictions, took his God given gift and talent to liberate the minds of those trapped in a cycle of hate and racial blindness.

Our God whose name is Love watches everyday as His creation devices even worse ways to inflict evil upon each other. Left alone, man would annihilate each other to the point where none would be left standing and so every now and then He causes one to rise amongst us to show others the beauty of selfless love. Because we see hope in the challenges others overcome, we are led to believe in the power of good over evil. Such light, discovered in one soul can ignite the light in others turning hopelessness into something unbelievably beautiful. The beauty of creation is that we all carry our individual light of greatness and should we choose to ignite it, can truly make a difference.
