HOW TO WEAR SHORTS

-

TREAT THEM Like SHORT PANTS

This might sound obvious, but you’d be surprised how easy it is to forget about fit. The way your pants fit above the knee is exactly how shorts should fit you below the waist. They should be slim, but with a little room for your thighs to breathe. You don’t want your quads to bulge out of the hem. You’re not the Hulk!

DRESS THEM PROPERLY

Shorts can quickly backslide into slob territory. Once you’ve got the fit down, focus on what’s going on around them. Dressy lawn party? Definitely go for a collared shirt, but go the extra step by throwing a light cardigan on top. If the materials are right, you’ll stay cool and won’t look too bulky.

MIND YOUR FEET

Shorts do not pair with high-top sneakers, no matter how sick you think they are. You end up looking shorter. A pair of canvas Vans, some Stan Smiths, or some low-top Chucks will do just fine. Sandals are all right, too. Just make sure they aren’t flip-flops.

Be WEARY OF CARGOS

You can most definitely wear cargo shorts. However, if they look anything like the ones you picked up at the mall when you were trying to dress like a cool kid in middle school, keep them in your past. Look for cargo shorts with trim, non-invasive pockets. These are a perfect example of what to look for.

KEEP THEM SHORT

Under no circumstance should your shorts dip below your knees. They should land just above your kneecap, perhaps a little higher. When you sit down, you should be able to see little bit of your lower thigh. Any more than that and you’ve gone too short. May you find that perfect balance.
