Why Add MoRe?

-

Aboy who wears a Kaftan, cap and adorns it with a French jacket is set for his outing. Yes! Kaftan and cap can perfectly go together for certain occasions; the combination may not be suitable for other occasions. But under no occasion should one opt for a combination of Kaftan, cap and French jacket. It would have perfectly been okay if the young boy had embarked upon his outing without adding the jacket. Why add more?

This brings to the fore the question: ‘Do clothes make a person or does a person make the clothes? Whether you love to sew your own threads or prefer to place order for your choice from a store does not matter. What is important is that your wardrobe reflects your personality. You may need to find out what your clothes are saying about you through the people around you.

Some people see fashion as a popular style or practice, especially in clothing, footwear, accessories, makeup, body or furniture; others describe it as a distinctive and often habitual trend in the style in which a person dresses.

Another category of people perceive fashion as an art; while to others, it is almost like a religion. For most people though, fashion is a method of utilizing clothing, accessories and grooming to show or hide something about yourself. Fashion can be an extension of your personality, allowing you to introduce the intrinsic part of your personality to the world without saying a word. Conversely, the way you dress can also conceal parts of your personality or allow you to play a role. People have diverse opinions about the concept of fashion. For Ruth Osime, Exec. Editor, THISDAY Style, you can have anything you want in life as long as you dress for it. She stated that fashion is the armour to survive the reality of everyday life since the way one is dressed will determine how the person would be addressed.

Fashion and style are two very common words in our daily life. They are frequently used during conversations on what is happening and in vogue, especially as far as dresses and apparels are concerned. With an exponential rise in the number of fashion events and shows, these terms have become so commonplace that people talk of them in the same breath, almost interchangeably. But are style and fashion synonyms? Fashion is cyclical in nature and remains in vogue for a certain time period until it is displaced by another trend. Fashion is what is ‘in’ at a particular time or season. So if you are following the trend, you are being fashionable. It is convincing yourself that what others are doing is cool and so you should also follow it. It really feels nice to be labeled trendy and fashionable. However, fashion is for a limited time only and you must change accordingly if you wish to remain fashionable.

On the other hand, style is something that is permanent and timeless. Style is your own and not guided by fashion really. While fashion pertains only to clothing and accessories, style is not dependent upon clothing and can be associated with anything that makes you look stylish. So style is something that is one’s own while fashion is adapting to what is in vogue. Style is an extension of fashion as you can use what is in fashion and incorporate it in your own style giving it an altogether different touch.

Fashion is a guide to a style that people can create on their own. How you incorporate the latest fashion in your wardrobe so that it suits your personality is really an art and refers to a style a person has. There are many with no style and just follow the fashion blindly. These are people who can be called fashionable but not stylish. However, it is very much possible to be stylish without being fashionable.

To many, the phrase “Less is More” contradicts the basic principle of arithmetic and therefore has no substance at all. However, the reasoning behind the statement has been brought to the fore by the new radio and digital commercial of Amstel Malta, a malt brand from the stable of Nigerian Breweries Plc. The commercial is called, Why Add More”; with a strategic platform, “Less is More.”

The commercial shows that many people still have a tendency to over-indulge in things unnecessarily. In that campaign, Amstel Malta uses fashion to illustrate the strength of the strategic platform, “Less is More.”The commercial emphasizes the need to be moderate on what one does. Impressed by the focus of the commercial; Ruth Osime, Editor, ThisDay Style, said: “Your inner confidence is a reflection of how you look outside. You do not have to wear large overbearing accessories before you can tell your fashion story. It is important you stay happy inside you.”

Osime emphasized the need for people to build internal confidence rather than placing too much emphasis on the outlook appearance. She noted that the brand does not only appeal to the people to be conscious of their ways of life but also to understand the fact that getting the right mix from everything is more important than heaps of quantity without real value to the beneficiary.
