Isle.Ov.Tea Makeup Artistry is a makeup company that enhances beauty for women of colour. They offer bridal services, engagements, party makeup, photography/extreme beauty makeup looks, gele and training. Their latest venture is the Ankara Gele which is really trending now. And not only is it light to the touch, it is also not as heavy as it looks. The creator of the concept Gbakinro Tiwalola gave a brief insight into this new sensation...

How did you come up with this concept?

Honestly, boredom lead me to it. I had nothing to do in the studio that evening, and was bored beyond normal, so I thought to myself, what if I tied six yards of Ankara? I tried it, it wasn’t perfect, but I didn’t stopped trying, and voila...here we are!

What is the name of this style?

It’s called 6 yards ankara in 3D or 3Dgele...the 3D is quite important.

How long does it take to tie this style?

It takes an average of 40 minutes.

Can it be made to keep on a permanent basis?

Yes it can, we’re working on perfecting it for long distance journeys.

How heavy is the headtie?

It is not heavy.

How many styles do you have?

We have different styles, we have the maths pleats, the rough pleats, the cute pleat and the turban.

How many yards do you require for each style?

Six yards for each style,the cute pleats can be less than six.
