WHO ELSE IS WATCHING YOU?

-

The journey started off in the most pleasant of ways, the slight delay at the boarding gate as the attendant rechecked her computer again, a click of some buttons and out came a new boarding pass, followed by a smile and an enjoy your upgrade to first class statement. It had been a very hectic week for me at my church’s annual convention so this was a very welcome gift I intended to enjoy to the fullest. A long trip to the US awaited me and what better way to go than first class all the way. Arriving in the States many hours later, the perks of first class means you are first out and down the concourse before the crowd emerges so off I went into the near empty arrival hall and away from the notoriously long lines awaiting entry into the united States.

The lady border control officer went through the usual motions and waved me through. Finally, I was ready to embark on the holiday of a lifetime when going through the baggage hall, ready to step out into the crowd of waiting greeters and meeters, I was directed to step aside to a hall reserved for additional screening. A quick look around revealed an overpopulation of Arabs with a splattering of Blacks and Hispanics. This must be racial profiling at its height was all I could think about. Arab name after name was called as I waited my turn and when finally I stood before the burly officer I kept wondering what it was I did to get such special attention.

When god created mankind, it was in His image, a replica of Himself with a heart of love at the core and a desire for companionship and fellowship with His creation. Nothing separated god and man, a oneness and unity that harbored no fear, carried no evil and depicted no shame. man didn’t kill man for sport, religion or war nor did they find each one a threat to the other. my crime was traveling to Turkey from the US on my last trip and not returning by the same route. Innocently done by my reckoning as an entrepreneur but a dangerous red flag in the world where terrorists routinely disappear from Turkey to various jihadi hotspots only to return and wreck inordinate havoc on innocents. I walked out troubled that my movements were so easily tracked by unseen eyes that have a digital tag on everything I do.

If man can see so much at once, what can be hid from Him who sees all at all times?

may god give us wisdom to live circumspectly.
