5 minutes with Deborah omale

While there are countless spas and nail salons littered across abuja, few offer posh amenities without costing an arm and a leg. doing just that, however, is what keeps Beauty secret skincare and spa ahead of the pack. recently, Konye Chelsea Nwabogor took some time out to talk to its Ceo deborah omale about how she got started in the beauty industry.

tell me a bit about yourself?

My name is Deborah Omale. I’m a pastor with Divine Hand Prophetic Ministry, alongside my husband who is the General Overseer, Prophet Emmanuel Omale; I am the CEO Beauty Secret skincare and spa. I studied Mass Communication at the university of jos, Plateau state Nigeria.

have you always being drawn to skincare and wellness? how did it all start?

yes, I have. My mum owned a beauty salon when we were growing up and when she picked us up from school we would spend some time there before heading home and over time, I found myself picking a lot of interest and long before I finished my secondary school, I already knew so much about skincare and hair. We had about four cosmetic shops close to our salon and it was of great interest to me. I spent a lot of time in these shops and all of these paved the way to a career in skincare and wellness. Even while in school at the university of jos, I owned a salon where we did everything from hair to nails to extensions and a whole lot.

is beauty secret a spa or a Wellness centre? how do you define it?

The words wellness and spa in my opinion cannot be separated. Beauty secrets spa is dedicated to helping people feel good about themselves, their well-being. Our services aren’t just tailored to meet cosmetic needs; we have diligently come up with services and an atmosphere that goes beyond physical pampering. We provide services that help you live in a state of optimal health like exercises and massages. And also facial treatments that go beyond just scrubbing your face. Beauty secret is all encompassing, we are a wellness spa.

What services do you offer and which of them stands out as the favourite amongst your clients?

Our services range from body fitness to laser treatments and chemical peels. We also have the Moroccan hammam, body contouring and the laser hair removal, which I believe are some of our client’s favourites.

What products do you use for your treatments, and how effective are they?

We use a lot of organic products. We also make use of notable skincare brands such as Le Prairie, Dermalogica, Murad, Clarins, Obagi and a whole lot. We treat based on skin type and condition so as to achieve our clients desired results. Our products are tested and trusted they have delivered as promised time and time again.

are there any services that you would consider unique to beauty secrets?

I would pick the body contouring and scar/tattoo removal.

What makes your business stand out from the competition?

We listen...customer satisfaction is very important to us and hygiene is also of upmost importance.

the craze to become light skinned has eaten deep into nigerian women. What are your views on skin bleaching?

If you have got pigmentation related issues or scars you want to get rid off, I personally don’t have a problem with that, but if you have purchased bleaching products with the intention of using it day in day out to bleach your skin, it’s not healthy. If you want to have flawless, spotless and glowing skin, you can achieve all of that without bleaching your skin. I think the quest to look really radiant and glowing is driving women to that market, but all of that is achievable without using products that are harmful to your skin. you only need to work with professionals who can advise and direct you in the right course.

in your opinion, how important is a head to toe beauty routine for women?

It’s a must. you must take time off your busy schedule to look after yourself, your body needs it .you must take care of the body, to enable it look and function at its best. Even our cars get serviced!

some say spa’s are not just physical but emotional therapy too. What do you think?

you won’t believe what getting rid of acne on the face does emotionally to a patient. Or the confidence you restore by helping them get rid of that stubborn fat in their stomach and upper arms. It’s not easy these days with society constantly throwing images of what body perfection should like in our faces.

Where do you see beauty secret in a few years?

By the grace of God, I see us standing amongst the best in the beauty industry in Nigeria. I see us branching outside of Abuja. I also want to see us go into skin care production and of course I will hold on to some as little secrets. But like they would say, Watch this space!

any skincare tips for us?

Drink loads of water, and moisturise. Also the use of sun block is a MuST. I would advice Spf 50 or 55.

it’s a must. you must take time off your busy schedule to look after yourself, your body needs it .you must take care of the body, to enable it look and function at its best. even our cars get serviced!
