A Million Reasons

- EXECUTIVE EDITOR Konye

The death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is a once-in-a-lifetime event for Britain and a profound shock that millions will feel the world over. As expected, people reacted with emotion, and nature acknowledged with a double rainbow in the skies over Buckingham Palace as its flag was lowered to half mast.

She was a symbol of consistency and the link between the generations. Of course, the passing of the queen was a certainty, seeing that she had come of age and had become increasingly frail in the recent times we had seen her.

Still, it felt unthinkable that someone who had been a permanent fixture for all of our lives would suddenly no longer be with us. And that’s why this feels like a personal loss for many people; accross the world, it feels like a priceless treasure has been lost.

And that’s the thing about death generally. We never want to accept the thought of it till it happens. It’s scary to think that one day we’ll have to live without our mother, father, brother, husband, or wife. Or that one day we’ll have to walk this earth without our best friend by our side, or them without us. This right here is one of the million reasons you should appreciate your loved ones while you can. None of us is going to be here forever. Let’s not even go into heartwrenching stories about people who didn’t get a chance to say goodbye to their loved ones. It shouldn’t take a global crisis to make us realize that we should never wait to say, “I love you” to those who matter most to us. Here we are, learning the hardest way imaginable that “tomorrow” is never promised. So, I am urging you

(begging you, really)- don’t wait to tell people you love them! Shout it from the rooftops today.
