FINDING THE BEST SKINCARE ROUTINE FOR YOUR AGE

- By Isioma Usiade.

Some people find it nearly impossible to adjust their skincare routine. They continue to use the same products they used in their 20s until they are in their 40s. This shouldn’t be the case because your skin evolves as you age. Following the best skincare routine for your age bracket will get you closer to beautiful glowing skin each day.

IN YOUR 20S …

The most common skincare issue among those in their 20s is acne and possibly discolouration from sun damage.

1: TO REDUCE EXCESS OIL,

use a gentle foamy cleanser that removes makeup without drying out your face.

Because your estrogen levels are declining at this age, your skin will get dryer. Add hydration as well as collagen-building substances such as peptides.

1: YOU’LL NEED A MILD FACE CLEANSING BRUSH to help remove dead skin cells while using a cleanser.

2: SPF IS A MUST-HAVE SKIN

PRODUCT, especially one that contains antioxidants to prevent further damage.

3: INCLUDE RETINOID and peptide serum in your skincare routine to help rebuild collagen and improve skin texture.

4: USE A MOISTURISER with a high concentration of glycerine or hyaluronic acid to help the skin retain moisture.

IN YOUR 50S … 2: USE A MILD MOISTURISER

that contains sunscreen and gives UVA and UVB protection during the day. Look for a product that is suitable for your skin.

3: FOR MINOR BREAKOUTS, apply a salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide spot treatment.

4: And always include a Vitamin C serum in your morning routine.

IN YOUR 30S …

At this age, you should begin exfoliating regularly because your skin only exfoliates naturally every 35 days, as opposed to every 14 in your 20s.

1: REPLACE YOUR FOAMING CLEANSER with a non-foaming cleanser.

2: USE AN ANTIOXIDANTrich moisturiser before applying sunscreen during the day.

3: INCORPORATE A RETINOID into your skincare routine to help enhance your skin’s overall texture and tone.

4: IF YOU HAVE DRY SKIN, use a simple moisturising cream. To avoid overtreatment of your skin, you might not need to add retinol at this stage.

IN YOUR 40S …

Because your skin has begun to lose moisture and elasticity, your focus should be on toning and moisturising. In extreme cases, skin rejuvenation could be an option.

1: USE A CREAM CLEANSER that hydrates the skin while cleansing. 2: SUNSCREEN should be applied every day.

3: SAME WITH A RICH PEPTIDE SERUM with antioxidants to help strengthen collagen and fight free radicals.

4: APPLY RETINOL before moisturising at night.

5: FINALLY, APPLY PLAIN PETROLEUM JELLY after using other serums.
