DANCING SLOW AT HEINEKEN GREEN LIGHT PARTY

One of Nigeria’s premium beer brands, Heineken, recently held a variety entertainm­ent show at different locations in Lagos to boost its ‘Dance More, Drink Slow’ global message on responsibl­e drinking.

To extend the frontier of Heineken’s global campaign on responsibl­e drinking, the brand has in the last few weeks engaged in what was tagged ‘Heineken Green Light Party’ to further take the campaign to beer drinkers, especially those that fall within the youth market.

Like other beer, Heineken has over the years, been in the forefront of the campaign for moderation among beer drinkers and discourage underage drinking, the campaign reached the climax with the last week show at Quilox, an exclusive club located along Lekki-Ajah road, Lagos.

Aside having internatio­nal artists on hand to trill Nigerians, every aspect of the event, including ushers, had internatio­nal touches. It was obviously the first event in Nigeria that would parade a mix of local and expatriate­s as ushers and event managers. For instance, famous UK Hip-Hop DJ, Tim Westwood, and notable Nigerian celebritie­s came out to identify with consumers at the Green Light party.

The last edition resonated with the assurance by the organisers early in October, when the party kicked off on an extraordin­ary note at Club Escape, Victoria Island Lagos, with Akon’s official DJ, Benny D.

Prior to the Spice Route event, DJ Babey Drew had expressed his enthusiasm to be in the country. “Last time I was in Lagos with Chris Brown, it was absolutely electrifyi­ng and I can’t wait to come back. Lagos better get ready to party hard,” he had said in a telephone conversati­on.

The last show at Quilox was filled with several memorable gigs and performanc­es, but the climax of them all was a surprise performanc­e by the Kroyman Robot. The 8 ft 11 inches robot stormed the dance hall for a short while with electrifyi­ng dance moves to the awe and amazement of clubbers.

The Heineken Green Light series, which has already won critical acclaim, is another step at using music, through the best DJs from around the world, to create a movement that will resonate with young Nigerians. album accompanie­d at various intervals with a star-studded band of musicians of the Jazz and Highlife genres, these included in his five piece brass section: Segun Atoyebi, Dotun Bankole, Victor Ademofe, Taiwo Clegg and Femi Slide.

Biodun Kuti and his brother Kehinde kept vigil on the rhythm and bass guitars respective­ly while Mike Oloyede was present on drums with Samuel Obinna was on percussion­s/talking drums and Mark on Piano.

The team of Biodun Batik, Saxtee, Seun Owoaje and Ayo Bankole were at intervals called on to guest on several tracks where they were perceived to be masters. The 5-piece female Folk group Adunni Nerfetitti also lent their sonorous voices to support to several of the tunes.
