My Experience at Wheatbaker Hotel

-

This week, I’m not venting on anyone but commending the staff of Wheatbaker Hotels, Ikoyi, Lagos. The attendants at the restaurant and bar are very efficient and homely in their services.

Being a country where few businesses lack good and quality customer service, it is a wave of fresh air to be in the company of one that is very genuine.

You can feel that these attendants understand the nature of their jobs and not scurrying for some tips like you would find elsewhere.

The way security guards, waiters, and even cleaners beg nowadays for tips, is repulsive. They display this overzealous way of attending to you, hoping that you would drop a handsome tip to augment their meagre earnings.

But Hotel, I enjoyed the true services of customer care. Perhaps, it’s because of the nature of their business but I have been to other so-called five star hotels where I have received worse treatment.

Although, my encounter was limited to the staff at the bar and the restaurant, I was highly impressed by their demeanour. I even pushed the elderly man who served my guest and I at the bar to the wall with my hesitation, yet his smiles were in place and very genuine.

He’s probably trained to deal with indecisive customers like me. Patiently, he waited for me to make up my mind while offering me options on the menu.

I had the same reception at the restaurant. The waiter Stanley took the pains to go through the buffet, experience another bout of my dillydallying, returned more than thrice to finally take my order and even came to inquire if I was satisfied with my meal. I couldn’t help but give him a generous tip for his genuine concern and smiles.

People like Stanley and the elderly man who I never got to know his name should be role models to others in the field. The banking hall is one of the worst places to get good customer service.

I know it requires a solid leather skin to handle people’s complaints and tantrums on daily basis; however, it is the responsibility of the firm to adequately train these personnel on the physical, mental and emotional side of the job.

Particularly the emotional part as they will be dealing with different idiosyncrasies on the job. I only hope that people like Stanley are highly rewarded for their excellent service.
