Yayale Ahmed, Prof. Afolabi, Others Join IGI Board

The Internatio­nal General Insurance (IGI) Plc at the weekend announced the appointmen­t of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Alhaji Yahyale Ahmed, former Head of Service of the Federation, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, and some other eminent Nigerians into its board.

A statement signed by the Managing Director of the company, Mr. Rotimi Fashola, listed other members to include a risk management expert and former managing director of Fidelity Bank Plc, Mr. Kenneth Aigbinode; an administra­tion expert, Mrs. Foluso Gbadamosi; former Head of State, General Yakubu Gowon; the company’s chairman, Apostle Hayford Alile, and a non-executive director, deputy managing director, Mr. Sina Elusakin, Mrs. Olubunmi Olowude and executive director, finance, accounts and investment­s, Mr. Yinka Obalade.

Fashola explained that the appointmen­ts were part of efforts aimed at reposition­ing the company for improved performanc­e. “We are committed to draw on the rich experience which has propelled IGI to the leading position in the insurance industry in Nigeria and one of the fastest growing insurers in East Africa,” he said.

Ahmed is an accomplish­ed public administra­tor who has served meritoriou­sly in top government positions. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and a Master’s Degree in Public Administra­tion both from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria. He also has honorary Doctorate Degrees in Law and of Letters awarded by the University of Abuja and Bayero University, Kano respective­ly. He was appointed Head of Service of the Federation in 2000, Defence Minister in 2007 and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in 2008.

Afolabi attended the University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, and Ile Ife. He has a Bachelor of Science and Master’s degrees in Biochemist­ry as well as a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Applied Chemistry. He won a fellowship at Howard University, Washington, United States, as an Internatio­nal Atomic Energy Agency Fellow in 1983.
