Access Bank Marks Women’s Day with Charity Walk

-

Hundreds of participants at the weekend took part in a charity walk to commemorate the International Women’s Day celebration in Lekki, Lagos.

The walk which flagged off at the Divine Mercy Catholic Church on Admiralty Way in Lekki Phase 1, saw the participants, mostly professionals from all walks of life, march through the Lekki Link Bridge into Alexander Road in Ikoyi before making a detour back at the Falomo Roundabout.

One of the participants, Nollywood actress, Kate Henshaw, told THISDAY that she volunteered to be part of the walk because apart from being a woman, “I am also a mother. I always support any cause aimed to project the overall well-being of the woman.”

Henshaw stressed further that through her participation, she has networked with other women with the aim of helping to project the feminine gender.

“I met a lady here who told me that she has never done any charity walk before. I was startled and counseled her on the need to get involved in such worthy venture that promotes our gender. You can imagine the benefit the exercise must have done to her,” observed the popular actress.

Also speaking on the Women’s Day, Access Bank’s Head of Inclusive Banking, Opewemi Jones, said that because her job entails dealing with women and children, “it is not out of place to join other women from around the world to celebrate the Women’s Day.”

She said that the walk presents women with the opportunity to network and open up to each other on any matter that is troubling their hearts. Jones stressed that since 2006, Access Bank has been involved in supporting the empowerment of women.

“We chose to walk because of the benefits derivable from the exercise. Secondly, it is an opportunity for women to speak out in cases they are being violated in one way or the other. Before the walk, we had a session on how to empower the women and it was very fruitful for all those that participated in it,” concludes the Access Bank executive.
