Tinubu, Ashafa, Olamilekan Win Lagos Senatorial Contest
Gboyega Akinsanmi Three senatorial candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State namely: Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, Sen. Gbenga Ashafa and Hon. Olamilekan Solomon Adeola were yesterday formally declared the winners of their senatorial contest.
In Lagos East, Ashafa, who is the Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Lands, Housing and Urban Development, polled 181,221 votes to defeat the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mrs. Olabisi Salis-Fakos, who polled 126, 350.
Also, former First Lady of the state, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, polled 167,628 votes in the Lagos Central contest to defeat the PDP candidate, Dr. Adegboyega Dosunmu, who was the party’s governorship candidate in 2011, and scored 135,445 votes.
Adeola, the Chairman of House of Representatives Committee on Public Accounts, was declared winner in the Lagos West contest having polled 429,765 votes against 372,421 votes polled by the PDP candidate, Mr. Segun Adewale.
Of the local government areas in the district, Adeola won in six namely: Alimosho, Agege, Ifako Ijaiye, Mushin, Badagry and Ikeja to beat his rival with 57,344 votes. He lost in Ojo, Amuwo Odofin, Oshodi /Isolo and Ajeromi/Ifelodun.
After the declaration, Ashafa, in an acceptance speech, dedicated the victory to his constituents, describing the victory as a call “to serve more. I’m overwhelmed by your gesture and accept your mandate to represent Lagos East.”
He said he emerged the winner with about 60 per cent of the total votes cast at the just concluded senatorial election.
