Buhari Reiterates Desire to Tackle Corruption, Economy

- In Owerri

Amby Uneze The president-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, has reiterated his commitment to decisively address the issues of corruption, insecurity and instability of the Nigerian economy.

Buhari made the declaration yesterday in Owerri, the Imo State capital, when he paid a visit to the state to thank members of the All Progressives Congress (APC ) for standing by him during the presidential election.

Stating that the APC government at the centre would quickly redress the current insecurity and corruption challenges, Buhari said his administration would also work to comprehensively revive the economy in the shortest possible time.

He announced that the new democratic order is designed to return power to the people to the extent that ordinary people will have a voice and the power to make emphatic statements with their votes.

“This is the beauty of democracy for which many of our leaders like Governor Rotimi Amaechi, Governor Adams Oshiomhole and Governor Rochas Okorocha have made enormous sacrifices and shown outstanding courage,” he said.

Expressing confidence in Buhari’s avowed stance against corruption, Okorocha stressed that the unity and progress of Nigeria was more important than any individual.

He urged the president-elect to bridge the North and South dichotomy and close up the ethno-religious divide between Nigerians of different ethnic and religious persuasion.

The highlight of the visit was the reception of some Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members to the APC.
