Jonathan’s Aide Commends INEC for Credible Elections in C’River
The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Aviation, Mrs. Ann Ene-Ita, has applauded the Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC) in Cross River State for its performance in the presidential and National Assembly elections on March 28.
Ene-Ita, who spoke in Calabar during the week, said the conduct of the elections was free, transparent and credible.
According to the chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the state government led by Senator Liyel Imoke, also deserves commendation for ensuring peaceful conduct of the poll that was devoid of intimidation and manipulation.
It is her view that the peace that characterised the exercise in the state derives from the transparent process that the PDP in the state adopted in choosing its standard bearers.
“The PDP in the state adopted an inclusive approach in choosing the flagbearers for the party. The process was also consultative in nature with the party caucuses, opinion leaders and even traditional rulers being carried along,” she stated.
She said it was therefore, not a surprise that the party made a clean sweep of all the National Assembly seats in the state.
The PDP chieftain congratulated those that won their elections, including Chief Gershom Bassey, the senator-elect for Cross River South senatorial district.
While urging that the legacies of the Imoke-led administration in the state be sustained, she charged all the elected representatives to always remember that the mandate they hold belongs to the people and should therefore, strive to meet the needs and wishes of the people.
