Pepsi Academy Wins Gidi Culture Festival Final

Pepsi Football Academy underlined its rising profile in beach soccer with a commanding performanc­e that saw the Agege-based team winning this year’s edition of Gidi Culture Festival at the weekend in Lagos.

In the first match, Pepsi Academy boys whitewashe­d JK team in a game that ended 6-1. The Pepsi lads, the same team that played against Barcelona FC sand team at COPA Lagos, netted three goals in the first half.

Their opponent made a comeback effort with a goal at the second-half but could not resist the pressure of the Pepsi team who kept troubling their defence. Pepsi increased the goal margin by scoring additional three goals.

Pepsi Academy also defeated AGMP team in the final match to lift the trophy.

According to Head of Marketing, Seven Up Bottling Company Plc, Mr. Norden Thurston, “the essence of the tournament at the Gidi Culture Festival was to excite the brand’s consumers at Easter.

He expressed satisfacti­on with the performanc­e of the Pepsi youngsters adding, that the brand is committed to developing grassroots football and beach soccer in Nigeria through the Pepsi Football Academy.” Mr. Thurston was represente­d by the Brand Manager, Seven Up Bottling Company Plc, Mr. Segun Ogunleye.

Director of Pepsi Football Academy, Coach Kashimawo Laloko, described the performanc­e of the PFA boys as very impressive even though they played on the sand, which is still very new to them.

He said Pepsi Academy has remained one of the biggest football academies in Africa and that the management will continue to participat­e in various competitio­ns both local and internatio­nal to create exposure for the youngsters who are the future of Nigerian football.
