Benin Agog for Edo FA Cup Final

Fans in Benin City, the Edo State capital, are an in anxious mood to watch the final of the 2015 Edo FA Cup, scheduled for the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium today.

Men’s finalists Kukuruku Dragons of Auchi and BJ Foundation of Benin City are appearing in the final for the first time. Fortress Ladies will play Edo Queens in the women’s final of the competitio­n.

Kukuruku Dragons’ fans have chartered over 50 buses to transport them from Auchi to Benin, as they aim to storm the stadium in large numbers to cheer their team to a first time victory. But BJ Foundation is banking on home support to edge their opponents.

Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole, is one of the top dignitarie­s expected at the final. He will be accompanie­d by the state’s Sports Commission­er, Priesley Ediagbonya, and other government officials.

The Edo FA board, led by Frank Ilaboya, said yesterday that it has put several measures in place to ensure that fans enjoy a memorable final game.

“The first 100 fans at the match venue will get Tshirts free courtesy of Airtel. Sportswear company, Zenith Sports, has provided two sets of medals for the final and three awards for outstandin­g players and officials of the competitio­n. They will also provide kits for ball boys while Ohonba Motors have made available buses for the final day,” stressed Ilaboya.

Twenty team and individual awards will be given out on the final day. Top sports personalit­ies from the state including , Kassim Afegbua, Godwin Dudu-Orumen, Dr. Sunny Ojeagbase, Emmanuel Usoh and Mike Itemuagbor donated trophies for the competitio­n.

Favourites and last year’s winners Insurance FC crashed out to Inneh Stars while BJ Foundation defeated 2014 finalists Dynamite FC on penalties after a 1-1 draw to book a final place. Dragons overcame Crown FC in the other semi-final.
