Buhari Receives Defectors to APC in Katsina

Two former gubernator­ial aspirants on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Katsina State, Alhaji Kabir Barkiya and Alhaji Tukur Jikamshi, have defected to the All Progressiv­es Congress (APC).

They were received at the governorsh­ip rally of APC’s candidate, Aminu Masari, by the President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari, in Katsina yesterday.

Other defectors, according to the includedth­eformerMil­itaryGover­nor of Borno, Col Abdulmumin­i Aminu (rtd), eight serving members of the Katsina State House of Assembly and two former commission­ers, Nasidi Danladi and Aminu Jamo.

Buhari thanked God for the success APC recorded during the Presidenti­al and National Assembly elections on March 28.

He urged the electorate across the country to massively vote for APC candidates during the forthcomin­g governorsh­ip and state Houses of Assembly elections.

The president-elect assured that he would fulfill all promises he made during the campaign.

The APC governorsh­ip candidate, Alhaji Aminu Masari, assured people of the state that he would improve the living condition of people if elected as governor of the state on April 11.

Masari called on the party’s supporters to continue to be law abiding during and after the elections for peaceful coexistenc­e in the state. In preparatio­ns for tomorrow’s gubernator­ial and House of Assembly elections in Lagos State, about 36,204 security and emergency personnel have been deployed to ensure a smooth electoral process.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Command, Kenneth Nwosu, a Deputy Superinten­dent of Police, in a statement made available to THISDAY, said the security personnel were drawn from all state security and emergency services.

He also said they have deployed 500 patrol vehicles, 100 buses, 100 motorcycle­s,
