...PDP Alleges Governor Bribed INEC Officials with N200m

- In Port Harcourt

Ernest Chinwo The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State has alleged that the state Governor, Hon. Chibuike Amaechi, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were bribing top officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) with N200 million to swap governorship election results.

The Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee, PDP Campaign Organisation in Rivers State, Mr. Emma Okah, said yesterday in Port Harcourt during a press briefing that Amaechi and the APC in the state were compromising INEC officials ahead of Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections.

Okah said: “To Amaechi and the APC, INEC must be compromised at all cost. Amaechi and the APC have been offering bribes to INEC officials at various levels with a view to compromising them in the conduct of the elections in Rivers State. We will leave the details of other cases for another day but the event of last night (Wednesday) is most embarrassing.

“Yesterday, Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi met with 10 Electoral Officers (EOs) who are in charge of conducting elections in ten local government areas in the state.

“In the meeting, they agreed that the sum of N20m will be paid to each of the 10 EOs by Amaechi and APC so that they will exchange the authentic result sheets with the ones prepared by Amaechi and APC. Thereafter, the EOs will on Saturday declare the results contained in the fake result sheets prepared by Amaechi and APC.”

He listed some local government EOS affected to include Ogu/Bolo, Tai, Degema, Ahoada East and Ahoada West.

Okah also accused Amaechi of arming criminals and mercenaries to cause mayhem so that elections would not hold in the state until President - elect, Muhammadu Buhari ascends as president.

His words: “The APC has been using Rivers State resources to defeat the will of the people of the state. They have been hiring and arming hardened criminals and mercenaries to be used against the will of Rivers people during the elections.

“They have also been buying guns and ammunition for misguided youths in the state to cause aggravated havoc in different parts of the state so that elections will not hold in Rivers
