Remain Calm, Exercise Your Civic Duties, Eze Ndigbo Tells Igbos

-

Founder of the Association of Igbo Leaders Based in Lagos, and Eze Ndi Igbo of Lagos, Eze Nwabueze Ohazulike has urged all Igbos in Lagos to remain calm and to go out massively on Saturday to exercise their civic responsibilities without fear of intimidation. This was contained in a communiqué issued by the Association.

This is trailing the recent statement by the Oba of Lagos, Oba Rilwan Akiolu to punish Igbos residing in Lagos if they failed to vote for the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate in this weekends governorship election.

Describing the statement as detestable and unacceptable, Ohazulike noted, “The Igbos have a long history of cordial relationship in Lagos State with the Yoruba community and other Nigerians and shall continue to cherish such relationship and make concerted efforts to protect and enhance it and to continue to promote the spirit of unity of Nigeria, love peace and inter-ethnic harmony in the state. Igbos are not discouraged by this latest development and world continue to cherish democracy and its universal concept of one man one vote as enshrined in the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Eze Ohazulike revealed that as the head of Eze Ndi Igbo structure in Lagos State, he had no knowledge and was not involved nor invited to the so-called courtesy visit to the first class Oba. He said further that the people involved in the said courtesy visit couldn’t represent the Igbo nation in Lagos state.

“We advise the Royal Palace to deal with genuine and known faces of Igbo Leaders in the state and affairs concerning Ndi-Igbo so as to avoid scenarios such as this in future.
