Kano Police Ban Polythene Bags at Polling Booths

The Kano State Police Command has ordered that no polythene bag or any similar objects should be allowed at polling area during the coming governorsh­ip and house of assembly elections for the security and safety of the exercise.

Addressing journalist­s yesterday after meeting of interagenc­y held at police command headquarte­rs Bompai, the state Police Commission­er Ibrahim K. Idris, warned that anybody who takes the risk of carrying bags would not be allowed near the polling units.

“Polythene bags and similar objects are banned from the designated polling units. We wish to have smooth and successful elections,” he warned.

He therefore called on people to give all the necessary cooperatio­n to the security agents that would be deployed to man the exercise.

Idris urged people should strive to obey all instructio­ns given by the security agents, “as peaceful election is our target.”

Idris further revealed that security agents would put some extra checkpoint­s at areas that were identified as volatile spots.

He called on the people of the state to cooperate with the men in uniform.

“The ban on quasi-security agencies not to wear uniform is still on. We have also made an adjustment on the restrictio­n of movement during the Saturday election as movement of people is restricted between 6a.m. to 5p.m.,” Police Commission­er reminded.

On his part, the newly appointed Resident Electoral Commission­er Husaini Halilu Pai, promised that the electoral body was ready for the conduct of the poll.

The REC also emphasised that card reader would still be used with much improvemen­t.

“Our card readers are fully charged. And we are going to have a successful election exercise,” he stated.
