Obi’s Accusations against Me are False, Disrespects My Office, Obiano Alleges
Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has alleged that his predecessor in office, Mr. Peter Obi, has been accusing him falsely and tarnishing his image since he left office among other sundry accusations.
Obiano also accuses Obi of using his Media Aide, Mr. Valentine Obienyem, to denigrate his office.
The governor in a briefing in Awka through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) Media, Mr. James Eze, yesterday took exception to a situation whereby for every little thing done by an indigene of the state outside the office of the governor but in which the person or group may have made reference to the person of Obi is insinuated to have been instigated by the governor.
A case in point, Eze said, was a protest organised by an amalgam of youth organisations in the state who protested the outcome of March 28, National Assembly elections in the cities of Onitsha, Awka and Nnewi on Wednesday but for which Obienyem attributed in some national dailies yesterday to Obiano, insisting that he was instigating crisis in the state he presides over as the chief security officer.
“We are horrified that what has been a silent proxy war launched by the shadowy agents of former governor on the social media against Obiano has finally taken a bold physical shape with Obienyem directly accusing Obiano of instigating crisis in the state he presides,” he said.
He said it was wrong to drag the name of the governor into a demonstration by aggrieved Igbo youths, who registered their complaints over the March 28, National Assembly elections in the state.
“We are embarrassed that the Obi camp has shown scant respect for the office of the governor which he occupied for eight years and enjoyed the high regard associated with it.
“We are disappointed that after failing to make any impression whatsoever in national politics, Obienyem and his boss have returned to the state they ruled with an iron hand for eight long years to create disharmony and threaten the peaceful atmosphere that Ndi Anambra have enjoyed in the past one year.
“We wish to categorically dissociate Obiano from any attempts to portray him as the brain behind the obvious show of dissatisfaction over the National Assembly election by aggrieved youths of the state. We must state that while the demonstration was on, the governor was busy flagging off road projects in Ezira, Orumba South Local Government Area and Enugwu-Ukwu respectively.
