RISNN, Kuramo Conferences Mark 2015 Earth Day in Lagos
To mark Earth Day 2015 in Nigeria, the Resource Initiative and Solutions Network Nigeria (RISNN), a global solutions initiative in partnership with Arizona State University in collaboration with Kuramo Conferences will hold a one-day colloquium on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Metropolitan Club, Lagos.
The event, which is part of the proposed ‘Sustainability School Lagos’, aims to bring experts and stakeholders together to discuss new ideas and initiate enterprise partnerships/actions relevant to capacitating RISNN and strengthening private-sector initiatives/contributions to growing a circular economy for Lagos and for Nigeria.
Kuramo Conferences have now become a uniquely African platform for global thinkers to exchange and share influential ideas; building knowledge and stimulating new development.
At this colloquium which marks ‘Earth Day,’ experts, entrepreneurs and academics will present and hold seminars focusing on how to achieve sustainable practices that will bolster businesses and have a reverbrating effect on the environment and the economy.
The Kuramo Conference series have benefited from the previous active participation of leading global thinkers including Prof Paul Collier, Dr. Dambisa Moyo, International economist and author of “Dead Aid”, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos State, Mary Robinson, former president of Republic of Ireland, Lord Boateng former Chief of UK treasury, Rev Dr. Jesse Jackson, President of the Rainbow Coalition and Kaye Whiteman, former Editor of West Africa Magazine and many more.
RISN Nigeria will facilitate multi-stakeholder processes to aid in the transformation of Nigeria’s solid waste system into a circular material management system, thus serving as an entry point into addressing many of our social and environmental challenges, while catalysing new economic development.
This year’s event will be led by Dr. Beatte Kummer of the Scholz Group, Ms. Baerbel Freyer, Head of Energy and environment Desk of the Nigerian Delegation of German Industry and Commerce, Mr. Ola Oresanya, the Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority and Sir Chris Ogbechie of the Pan-Atlantic University.
This year’s conference will be chaired by Chief O. Osunkeye. Gunmen yesterday kidnapped the District Head of Wamakko in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Alhaji Salihu Barade.
The 60-year-old traditional ruler is the younger brother of Governor Aliyu Wamakko and a senior Counsellor in the Sultanate Council.
THISDAY gathered that the district head was kidnapped by some gunmen around 8p.m. yesterday at his farm located at Majiya area, the outskirts of Wamakko town about 30 kilometres from the state capital.

THISDAY learnt that Garba was said to have been dropped by the abductors at Wallijan forest, near Gwandu in Kebbi State and had since returned to his family.
