RISNN, Kuramo Conference­s Mark 2015 Earth Day in Lagos

To mark Earth Day 2015 in Nigeria, the Resource Initiative and Solutions Network Nigeria (RISNN), a global solutions initiative in partnershi­p with Arizona State University in collaborat­ion with Kuramo Conference­s will hold a one-day colloquium on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Metropolit­an Club, Lagos.

The event, which is part of the proposed ‘Sustainabi­lity School Lagos’, aims to bring experts and stakeholde­rs together to discuss new ideas and initiate enterprise partnershi­ps/actions relevant to capacitati­ng RISNN and strengthen­ing private-sector initiative­s/contributi­ons to growing a circular economy for Lagos and for Nigeria.

Kuramo Conference­s have now become a uniquely African platform for global thinkers to exchange and share influentia­l ideas; building knowledge and stimulatin­g new developmen­t.

At this colloquium which marks ‘Earth Day,’ experts, entreprene­urs and academics will present and hold seminars focusing on how to achieve sustainabl­e practices that will bolster businesses and have a reverbrati­ng effect on the environmen­t and the economy.

The Kuramo Conference series have benefited from the previous active participat­ion of leading global thinkers including Prof Paul Collier, Dr. Dambisa Moyo, Internatio­nal economist and author of “Dead Aid”, Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos State, Mary Robinson, former president of Republic of Ireland, Lord Boateng former Chief of UK treasury, Rev Dr. Jesse Jackson, President of the Rainbow Coalition and Kaye Whiteman, former Editor of West Africa Magazine and many more.

RISN Nigeria will facilitate multi-stakeholde­r processes to aid in the transforma­tion of Nigeria’s solid waste system into a circular material management system, thus serving as an entry point into addressing many of our social and environmen­tal challenges, while catalysing new economic developmen­t.

This year’s event will be led by Dr. Beatte Kummer of the Scholz Group, Ms. Baerbel Freyer, Head of Energy and environmen­t Desk of the Nigerian Delegation of German Industry and Commerce, Mr. Ola Oresanya, the Managing Director of the Lagos Waste Management Authority and Sir Chris Ogbechie of the Pan-Atlantic University.

This year’s conference will be chaired by Chief O. Osunkeye. Gunmen yesterday kidnapped the District Head of Wamakko in Wamakko Local Government Area of Sokoto State, Alhaji Salihu Barade.

The 60-year-old traditiona­l ruler is the younger brother of Governor Aliyu Wamakko and a senior Counsellor in the Sultanate Council.

THISDAY gathered that the district head was kidnapped by some gunmen around 8p.m. yesterday at his farm located at Majiya area, the outskirts of Wamakko town about 30 kilometres from the state capital.

THISDAY gathered that the suspected gunmen came to the livestock farm and abducted him along side a former Education Secretary in Wamakko council, Alhaji Ango Garba.

THISDAY learnt that Garba was said to have been dropped by the abductors at Wallijan forest, near Gwandu in Kebbi State and had since returned to his family.

The caretaker of the livestock farm of the kidnapped District Head, Bello Barade told journalist­s in Wamakko town that the abductors came in a green Avensis car at around 8 p.m..
