Uduaghan Warns Troublemak­ers to Stay Away from Tomorrow’s Polls

Two men in fake army uniforms arrested

Delta State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, yesterday warned troublemak­ers in the state to stay away from polling unity tomorrow during the governorsh­ip and House of elections.

Uduaghan said this when he disclosed that two men suspected to be fake soldiers adorned in army uniforms had been arrested in Sapele.

The governor stressed on the need for orderly conduct of the indigenes during the elections.

He promised the preparedne­ss of the state government to collaborat­e with the Independen­t National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the security agencies towards a peaceful and successful election tomorrow.

The governor however, warned troublemak­ers to steer clear of polling centres and all activities and places related to the election on Saturday.

The governor, who stressed that “trouble makers will not be give a breathing space” during the electoral exercise, said he was personally concerned that all Delta citizens are safe during and after the election.

He said that INEC “We have no wish that anyone should come to harm in any way during election,” Uduaghan said, adding, “It’s all about democracy, the people’s choice.”

INEC has promised that all observed loopholes and discrepanc­ies in the March 28, 2015 elections have been corrected and that personnel and materials will be adequately and delivered or distribute­d in time for the election on Saturday.

He said INEC has also assured that the card reader function without hitches this time around will also be used for accreditat­ion of voters at the polling centres throughout the state.

“This election will mark a watershed in the annals of of our beloved Delta State. As we go out to vote on Saturday, we should please remember that it is not a do-or-die affair. I have no wish that anyone should come to harm It is peaceful election where the leaders are freely chosen by the people is the hallmark of democracy.

“There is life after elections”, he noted and urged the people to respect the restrictio­n on movement directed by the concerned security agencies during the exercise.

He urged the people to cooperate with the security agencies to ensure that elections are hitch-free.

“We must follow the rules; we must conduct ourselves in a peaceful and orderly manner,” he advised.

He urged the people to be vigilant, saying the government had informatio­n that person using fake uniforms of security agencies would be used, noting that two persons suspected to be impersonat­ing soldiers were arrested in Sapele along SapeleWarr­i Road on Wednesday fully kitted in Nigeria Army uniforms and driving in a bus in army colours and uniforms.”

He advised the people to be vigilant, though it was not clear if the two arrested suspects had anything to do with the coming election.

Nonetheles­s, THISDAY gathered that the Toyota Hummer Bus that the two suspected army impersonat­ors were arrested with in Sapele was loaded with substances suspected to be Indian hemp.

Uduaghan, however, said he was fully ready to hand over to whoever emerged as the elected governor of the state from the Saturday, April 11, 2015 election.
