Martins Boasts of a More Ruthless Wikki Tourists

-

Wikki Tourists’ attacking midfielder, Uche Martins is confident that the club will overcome its present scoring difficulties as the season progresses and promised an improved goals return when the league resumes from the election break.

Wikki are seventh on the log going into the break with three goals from three matches and also conceding three.

The Premier League returnee have won, drawn and lost one match to garner four points. They are joint 4th highest scoring side alongside three other clubs and this is possibly not a bad output considering that the highest scoring club, Heartland has just seven goals with FC Taraba in second place with five goals.

Their inability to hit the net has elicited criticism from fans who lamented the wasted chances in front of goal in their two home games, one of which was a 1-1 draw against fellow newcomers, Kwara United on Match Day 3. Wikki began their season with a 2-0 win over Shooting Stars but slumped 2-0 in Lafia to Nasarawa United on Match Day 2.

The fans have been critical of the front men whom they accused of squandering glorious opportunities to lift the club but Martins said the election break has offered them the time to work on their scoring impediments. He said they have been training to perfect their shooting abilities and also grow confidence in front of goal.

“We are not happy with our performance so far especially when it comes to scoring. We have missed so many chances but the break has given us the opportunity to work on the weakness. We have worked on target shooting and have grown in confidence. I am assuring our fans that we will improve our scoring abilities from our next game against Abia Warriors”, Martins told www.npfl.ng.
