Wilfred Wins IBB Lady Captain’s Cup

-

Olawale Ajimotokan in Abuja Amina Wilfred last night returned 40 stableford points to emerge the winner of the IBB Lady Captain Cup held in Abuja.

The eight-handicapper found form by also emerging the winner of the Ladies Singles Match play trophy.

The tournament was organised by IBB International Golf and Country Club to officially mark the end of the tenure of the current captain of the lady section, Mrs Ketumi Alasa.

Wilfred won the ladies handicap 0-28 silverware by four strokes after leaving the rest of the players on her trail.

Nanfe Andu, who posted the same 36 points as Grace Ihonvbere, finished in second position on count back, while Police Woman Inspector Rachel Danjuma from Jaji Golf Club, Kaduna State finished fourth with 33 points.

Over 160 players, including invited male guests players, reported early yesterday morning at the IBB Golf course starter hut for the short gun contest.

Paul Ibeku, a veteran player at IBB, said the large turn out was a measure that people were impressed with Mrs Alasa’s stewardship of the lady section.

“It is a once in a year event for the lady captain and it is her official last duty before she hands over to another person. Comparatively, she left good imprints which explained why many players turned out for the tournament, “Ibeku said.

Ado Samba picked the men prize by three points after carding 42 stableford points. URM Oladapo finished second on count back ahead of BA Nathus.

Mrs Folake Olateju partnered Mrs Adekunbi Usman to win the ladies match play doubles while Dipo Sanya and A. Nasidi won the men auxiliary prizes of longest drive and nearest to the pin.

Alasa said she was honoured by the attendance and the support by sponsors and members to her committee in the last 12 months.

She expressed delight that her committee was able to organize its program in addition to two golf development clinics for children.
