Golf: Oparaku Chases Euro-Pro Tour Card

Olawale Ajimotokan in Abuja Nigeria’s Regular Tour profession­al golfer, Oparaku is dreaming of joining the league of big players by eyeing a tour card that will enable him compete in Europe.

The player, ranked ninth on the Nigerian Order of Merit will head to England in May to participat­e in the Euro Pro-Am Tour.

Oparaku will compete with the rest of the players at the Jack Nicklaus designed Machnys course.

The winner of the tour will go home with a prize purse of 2, 500 pounds while the second placed player will get 1,250 pounds.

“The ultimate aim is to see if I can get card to the European Tour. I am very particular about that because a European Tour Card is an opportunit­y to improve my world ranking ,” the player known as Aba pro enthused.

He revealed to THISDAY that he is fired up as a Euro Tour Card will boost his chances of sealing an endorsemen­t deal with leading gear manufactur­er, Puma.

According to Oparaku he has contact with Puma and has been told that endorsemen­t deal could be worked out provided his European adventure bears fruits.

“I love the Puma brand and I spend fortunes just appear like Rickie Fowler, who endorses Puma. While playing in the Jamega Tour last year, I met a top shot of Puma and has assured that a deal could happen if I play myself into the European Tour”.

Immediatel­y after the Euro Tour, Oparaku, who has a UK Resident Permit where he has played more than 16 golf courses, will compete at the Jamega also in the United Kingdom
