Chief Coach of Giwa FC, Tony Bolus acknowledges that the team hasn’t had the desired start to the season but insists that there is sufficient quality in the squad to finish among the top four teams in the Glo Premier League this term.

The Elephants from the Central Nigerian city of Jos took the league by surprise in their first attempt at top flight last season and ended in the fourth position, just a place adrift of a continental ticket. Despite having to contend with some self-inflicted distractions during the course of the season including a stadium ban in the latter part of the season, Giwa FC almost achieved what would have been an unprecedented feat in Jos.

This season however, the team is yet to hit top gear and has secured three different results from their first three games of the season. After an opening home draw against Abia Warriors, they lost 3-0 in Warri against Wolves in what was Bolus’ first game in charge. The Tin City side however recorded their first win of the season in their Matchday 3 encounter against Sunshine Stars at the Rwang Pam Stadium.

“I’m very confident that we will match what we did last season. We’re even aiming to surpass the fourth position. We will keep improving as the games come by.” Bolus told www.npfl. ng days after his team’s narrow 1-0 win over Sunshine Stars.

Continuity is as key as consistency for any team to achieve its set objectives and that informs how Giwa FC were able to hold on to several of their key stars that lit up the league last term in the face of overtures from rival clubs. Bolus acknowledges this and believes it is important for the club to have its stars around.

“I’m comfortable with the set of players we have on ground. We have good players and will just do the fine-tuning. The club has done a good job in keeping the top stars and that is very important if we will achieve our aim.”the former Sardauna of Kano handler stressed.

On Matchday 4, Giwa FC travel to Enugu for a date with Rangers who have lost two of their three matches played so far. Bolus is hopeful his wards can make a good impression in the game and get a better result than in their only away game so far.

“It is equally important that we get some good results away from home. In my first game in charge, we didn’t do as expected in Warri and I hope this time in Enugu, we can shock them and get a better result for ourselves.” Bolus concluded.
