Owelle Salutes Jonathan’s Statesmanship, Hails Buhari, Ambode

- Vincent Obia

Chairman and chief executive officer of Total Aluminium Systems Limited, Chief Frank Owelle, has saluted the courage of President Goodluck Jonathan, who conceded defeat at the March 28 presidential election while the results were still being collated by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Owelle said that singular act of the president, who was the presidential candidate of Peoples Democratic Party, saved the country from crisis. He congratulated the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari of All Progressives Congress, on his victory and expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the governorship election in Lagos State, which was won by the APC candidate, Akinwunmi Ambode.

Owelle said the increased confidence level in the Nigerian economy would lead to increased investment. He said, “If you look at the quality of campaign, the re- sources and everything that went into the president’s bid to return through the ballot box, ordinarily, many Nigerians would have expected him to vehemently oppose the result of the presidential election. But he stood his ground, despite pressures from various quarters for him to reject the outcome. He decided to follow the path of honour.”

Owelle said Jonathan’s timely concession had justified his refrain that his ambition is not worth the blood of any Nigerian.

He also congratulated Buhari, “Mr. Zero-tolerance for corruption, on his victory,” saying, “For me, the victory is for all citizens of this country, irrespective of party or religious leaning. I believe that what has happened is the will of God. My prayer is that God will direct the incoming administration to move the country forward.”

Owelle also said, “I am satisfied with the emergence of Ambode as governor-elect in Lagos State. He ran a good and elaborate campaign.”
