Ohuabunwa Hailed as Senator-Elect in Abia, Gets Certificate of Return
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has issued the Certificate of Return to Hon. Mao Ohuabunwa as Senator-Elect representing Abia North.
Performing the ceremony at INEC headquarters in Umuahia the state capital, Chief Lawrence Nwuruku, while presenting the certificates to the winners, charged them to celebrate their victory peacefully, and be magnanimous in their celebration.
Following protests, Abia North election result was subjected to three days forensic analysis booth by booth before Ohuabunwa of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was declared winner; having scored the highest number of votes in Abia North Senatorial election of March 28.
The detailed result shows that Monday A. Ohuabunwa of PDP scored 47,027 votes to emerge winner. Other contestants included David Ogba Onuoha of APGA who received 28,055 votes and Orji Uzor Kalu of PPA, who received 27,002 votes.
Abia North Elders represented by Nigerian High Commissioner to Canada, Chief Ojo Maduekwe, affirmed that “it is the return of quality representation”, with their commendation informed by the pedigree of Mao in legislation and knowledge of workings of National Assembly, during the period he represented Arochukwu /Ohafia in the House of Representatives and as leader of South-east caucus in the National Assembly.
In his acceptance speech, Ohuabunwa assured the zone of effective representation at the national assembly and promised that Abia North voice will be heard and the zone’s problem will receive adequate legislation.
