ABUBAKUR AUDU AND KOGI APC ELDERS

-

My attention has been drawn to the news of a letter purportedly written to the President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd) by a group that bears the name, Elders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and raising outlandish, untenable and ridiculous accusations against Prince Abubakar Audu, former Executive Governor of Kogi State and leader of the APC North central leadership caucus. As ridiculous and strange as the name of that group stands, evident in the content, intent and purpose of the said letter is a despicable and ineffectual attempts by disgruntled elements to foist a culture of irresponsibility on our growing democracy. It may be that these unfulfilled elements are not in tune with the new dawn of change that has enveloped our political landscape. Nay, they may be, believing that the pull-him down syndrome that has hitherto served them so well as their stock in trade could thrive but alas, how woefully disappointed they would be. Prince Abubakar Audu is a true democrat whose every gesture including standing long and hardened in opposition, contributes toward the creation of harmony with the tenets and principles of democracy and the development and popularity of our great party, APC. In this new era, politicians must not fall to the temptations of allowing ego, pride and desires to becloud their sense of judgment. Prince Audu is a man whose political horizon is far broader than can possibly be imagined. His belief and commitment to the spirit and goal of the new era are infallible. We are in an era where no one will be deprived of what they truly deserve and none will be availed that which they do not merit. Prince Audu has wronged no one deliberately. His decisions and actions at any point in time were as considered expedient to the good fortunes of the APC in Kogi. Taken as a whole, whatever Prince

Audu has done so far has launched the APC irreversibly on the road towards its finest hour in Kogi State. Stating anything to the contrary is but part of the futile designs long orchestrated to stop Prince Audu in his gubernatorial comeback bid, the prospect of which we are quite sanguine. Prince Audu could not possibly have been guilty of the faults they imputed to him. Truth, however, is an elusive quality, and perhaps what is most important in this unpretentious context is for the general public to reflect on the motives and pedigree of the so -called Elders of the APC in Kogi State. However, to attribute the outcome of the April 28 Assembly elections in Kogi State to the alleged high handedness of Prince Audu in the APC is most callous, unjust and a pointer to the shallow understanding of the dynamics of the elections by the elements of that APC elders group. Moreso, is the group pathetic claim that Prince Audu could be a bad influence on the party’s fortune in the gubernatorial election in the state slated to hold later this year. Finally, we call on all well- meaning indigenes of Kogi State, whether they be elders or youth to not allow baseless sentiments to befog their sense of reasoning, but join hands with Prince Audu to take Kogi to yet another era of progressive change under the auspicious presidency of General Buhari.
