Market starts on a negative note this week as price volatility persists
Market pulse on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) today- Monday April 27th 2015 was bearish as Brent crude steadied above $65 per barrel, signs that U.S. shale output may have started to decline offset the effects of a strong dollar. The equity market closed red today due to negative performances from all sectors.
Trading activities decreased in volume as N200.9million shares worth N2.19billion in 4151 deals exchanged hands today. This is a decrease from the N429.1 million shares worth N4.15 billion in 4,691deals trades carried out on Friday. Topping in volume terms was UBA Plc., Zenith Bank Plc. and Transcorp Plc. while Nigerian Breweries Plc and Zenith Bank Plc ended trading as the most active stocks in value terms. The All Share Index (NSEASI) closed negative with a -0.49% (-168.00) decrease to 34,317.72 from 34,485.72 the previous trading day. Market Capitalization depreciated in tandem to N11.66 trillion from N11.75 trillion the prior trading day. The Thisday BGL 50 Index also closed negative with a 0.51% decrease to close at 144.67 from 145.41 the previous trading day, while its market capitalization stood at N10.69 trillion from N10.74 trillion the previous trading day.
A total number of 19 stocks gained on the bourse today while 27 stocks declined, leaving 65 stocks unchanged. Cadbury Nigeria Plc. emerged the toast of investors as it topped the Thisday BGL 50 Index gainers’ list with a gain of 5.00% to close at N 42.00per share. It was followed by Custodian And Allied Insurance Plc with a gain of 4.81% to close at N4.14per share. Others on the gainers list include; Dangote Flour Mills Plc, AIICO Insurance Plc and Trans-Nationwide Express Plc. On the decliners’ list, Seplat Petroleum Dev. Co. Ltd. led with a loss of -5.00% to close at N378.10 per share. It was followed by Livestock Feeds Plc. with a loss of -4.76% to close at N 2.20per share. Others on the losers list include; Guinness Nig Plc, Sterling Bank Plc. and Vono Products Plc.
