Get Ready for Virile Opposition, Mark Counsels PDP

- In Abuja

Omololu Ogunmade Senate President, David Mark, yesterday counselled the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to rise from its woeful defeat at the recent general election and pick up its gauntlet to provide a strong and united party with credible opposition.

Mark, who made this call in Abuja at the weekend, while meeting with the PDP senatorselect and House members-elect, said it was high time PDP accepted its new status as an opposition party.

According to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Paul Mumeh, Mark urged party chieftains to draw useful lessons from the defeat.

“We must accept the ups and downs as an opposition party. That is what the PDP is now. We must remain a united family and face the reality,” Mark pleaded.

Mark also observed that the poor performance of the PDP in the last elections might be a blessing in disguise, disclosing that the party would return to the trenches to evolve strategies that would bring it out of the woods.

“We are going back to the drawing board to do a critical review and fashion out a blue print that would get us out of the woods for good.

“The role of opposition is strange to us but it is not a death sentence. We should be ready for the challenges. We are prepared to play a credible opposition. I believe the nation and indeed Nigerians would be the best for it,” he said.

Mark, however, bemoaned the bickering within the party over PDP’s loss at the polls, saying the loss should rather be converted to an opportunity for a victorious future.

“There is no need weeping over lost opportunities or mistakes of yesterday. The failure of yesterday should be our lesson for a better today and a triumphant future,” he added.

He appealed to stakeholders of the party to bury the hatchet and resolve to work together for a united and progressive party for the future.
