Stock lose slightly by 0.17% beginning of the week

Market pulse on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) today- Monday May 4th 2015 was bearish as Brent crude fell to $66.15 after hitting an all-time of $67.10. The equity market closed red today during this week’s first trading day.

Trading activities decreased in volume as N324.4million shares worth N6.4billion in 4,844 deals exchanged hands today. This is a decrease from the N374.5million shares worth N3.75billion in 4,694 deals trades carried out on Friday. Topping in volume terms was Zenith Plc., Access Bank Plc. and UBA Plc. while Nigerian Breweries Plc and Zenith Bank Plc ended trading as the most active stocks in value terms. The All Share Index (NSEASI) closed negative with a -0.17% (-58.83) decrease to 34,649.28 from 34,708.11 the previous trading day. Market Capitaliza­tion depreciate­d in tandem to N11.767 trillion from N11.786 trillion the prior trading day. The Thisday BGL 50 Index also closed negative with a 0.56% decrease to close at 145.61 from 146.42 the previous trading day, while its market capitaliza­tion stood at N10.760 trillion from N10.820 trillion the previous trading day.

A total number of 25 stocks gained on the bourse today while 28 stocks declined, leaving 47 stocks unchanged. Vitafoam Nig Plc. emerged the toast of investors as it topped the Thisday BGL 50 Index gainers’ list with a gain of 10.14% to close at N 5.32per share. It was followed by Red Star Express Plc. with a gain of 9.79% to close at N 4.15 per share. Others on the gainers list include FBN Holdings Plc, University Press Plc. and Honeywell Flour Mill Plc. On the decliners’ list, Unity Bank Plc. led with a loss of -9.51% to close at N3.52 per share. It was followed by Mansard Insurance Plc. with a loss of -5.00% to close at N 2.85 per share. Others on the losers list include; Trans-Nationwide Express Plc., Dangote Flour Mills Plc and Vono Products Plc.
