NYSC Assures Bauchi Corps Members of Security
Segun Awofadeji The Bauchi State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Alhaji Musa Abubakar, has assured the over 3,000 prospective corps members deployed to the state for this year’s Batch ‘A’ programme that the issue of security challenges has been resolved and that adequate measures are in place to curb any hitch that may still exist.
Abubakar, who made this known while briefing journalists in his office in Bauchi, said the directorate is ready for the orientation exercise, which will hold in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State on June 2, 2015.
He explained that the orientation programme is time-bound and would take place from May 5 to 25, 2015 nationwide, except in Adamawa, Bauchi, Borno, Gombe and Yobe States whose camps have been rescheduled for June, 2015 respectively.
According to him, the decision to hold the Bauchi State exercise in Mangu is not directly attached to insecurity in the state, but it is as a result of the current renovation taking place at the State Orientation Camp located in Wailo, Ganjuwa Local Government Area of the state.
“Let me clear the air that government’s intention to hold the orientation exercise in Plateau State does not mean that Bauchi State is not safe, but government is currently renovating the NYSC camp in Wailo to make it more habitable and to meet up with standard camps elsewhere.”
The coordinator maintained that corps members were posted and are serving in all the 20 LGAs of the state against the perception that some areas are considered black spots, adding that this followed adequate security measures put in place and wider consultations with stakeholders across the state.
He reiterated that the directorate has been encouraging corps members to accept in good faith the areas of deployment, saying that preferences are only giving to married women who are given the opportunity to serve near their husbands.
Abubakar noted that the NYSC office has already intimated the state government especially to support the directorate in transporting corps members after the exercise to the state which is the challenge envisaged.
He therefore urged prospective corps members to freely relate with their hosts communities as “Bauchi State
