MainOne leads Africa Panel on Data Traffic at International Telecoms Week

MainOne, a communications services company and operator of the premier Tier III Data Centre in West Africa, MDX-I, has been chosen to lead the African panel on localising Content and Data Traffic in Africa at a plenary session of the International Telecoms Week to be held in Chicago from May 10th to May 13th, 2015.

With the theme: ‘ Localising Data Traffic and Content in Africa’, the session, will highlight the growth in Internet traffic in Africa and how the rapid development of Data Centre facilities and terrestrial fiber networks are aiding this growth.

As a prime sponsor of the conference, MainOne is expected to share its perspectives as a major player in the African wholesale carrier market and operator of the largest Tier III Data Centre facility in West Africa. In addition, MainOne’s CEO, Ms. Funke Opeke, will chair a panel session with participants including CEOs of other players across the continent including CMC Networks, Liquid Telecom Group and Seacom.

Speaking ahead of the event, Opeke said the African telecoms market is generating interest globally with the improved availability of broadband access and data centre infrastructure. She stated that the improved telecoms infrastructure presents opportunities for global companies to expand their services into Africa with the potential of huge returns for first movers.

The conference is the meeting point for the global wholesale telecommunications community, and is expected to host over 6,000 delegates from about 1,874 companies representing over 150 countries, to interact and discuss the latest market developments over a variety of panel sessions and presentations.

Big Data business has continued to witness tremendous growth in Africa, especially in Nigeria.

This has necessitated the emergence of several Tier 111 data Centres in the country, to manage the growth of big data in organisations.

In discussing big data and data traffic, MainOne will also discuss the need to localise data traffic and content in Africa at the international conference.
