For Real Change, Where Should GMB Start?

As a new administration takes over the helms of government in a few weeks, analysts have identified many problems facing Nigeria and the various pitfalls that downed the outgoing administration. However, all the country’s problems cannot be solved in a da

-

Abimbola Akosile * For real change to take place, Buhari should displace and possibly eradicate Boko Haram (BH) and then bring back our beloved Chibok girls, and then on the issue of corruption, he is strongly advised to start with his party and kitchen cabinet, period!

- Mr. John, Lekki, Lagos State * For real change, GMB should start with power generation, and diversification of the Nigerian economy. - Mr. Kriskenny Ojogbede, Transcorp Hilton Hotel (THH), Abuja * Before you start mentioning ‘for real change’, have you noticed that APC has beginning to recant some of their campaign promises? Anyway, let law enforcement agencies and the judiciary be strong and independent and overhauling electricity issue will be wonderful. Secondly we can have heavy tax imposed on importation and luxury imported lifestyle, and we must also discourage medical tourism to India. - Mr. Okechukwu Ikonne, Ogbor Aboh Mbaise LGA, Imo State

* Electricity, Power, PHCN, NEPA.

- Mr. Ope Makanjuola, Lagos * GMB should ensure that oil money is used for our common good. Creating an enabling environment for an ideal agricultural revolution must top his agenda. Food availability and job creation as twin problems can be tackled with a sustained plan of action. The road map to actualise job creation and food security initiative is within reach to make real change real. - Mr. Ikpa Matthew, Foodman Enterprises and Jobs Limited, Asokoro, Abuja * Lack of genuine advisers and true law enforcement or justice has been the lingering problems of governance, development, advancing true democracy and its dividends in Nigeria. GMB must address hunger, poverty, employment, insecurity at the grassroots and generally. All monies recovered nationally and internationally must be audited while financial loopholes must be blocked totally to stop looting of the treasury. God bless Nigeria.

- Mr. Apeji Onesi, Lagos * GMB should start with the effective fight against corruption. This is because corruption is the number one problem of Nigeria. If this is done and achieved, other things will definitely be alright.

- Mr. Kessim Putme, Abuja

* NEPA.

- Mr. Kunle Idowu, Surulere, Lagos * Buhari should start with education first. He should totally remove JAMB and Post-UME exams. The best students go abroad and we lose them to other countries. The time of change is now. Mandela said education is the power to save the world. I say removing JAMB and Post-UME is a total change for Nigerians. GMB, save our education. Thank you.

- Mr. David, Port Harcourt, Rivers State * GMB should start from ensuring regular electricity availability and its sustenance as the livewire of industrialisation and development. Stakeholders must invest in research to enhance success in the long run. Also alternative sources are worth considering. Generator importation must be stemmed or banned for local electricity production to thrive. - Miss Apeji Patience Eneyeme, Badagry, Lagos * Nigerians should give Buhari time to heal the wounds created by PDP in the past 16 years of mis-governance. GMB knows where the shoe pinches Nigerians; thereafter he will deliver good governance because he has been here before and we all know his antecedent. - Mr. Gordon Chika Nnorom, Public Commentator, Umukabia, Abia State * The easiest but visible step will be immediate completion (set August and September deadlines) of the Lagos-Ibadan and SagamuBenin expressways.

- Mr. Mike Oduniyi, Lagos * GMB’s first priorities should be our security and then corruption. If a country’s security is taken care of, every other thing comes later. Corruption in Nigeria is an issue from small to big. If everyone given a responsibility in any sector in Nigeria is held accountable whether it’s political or private, corruption will never be a problem. If insecurity and corruption is taken care of in Nigeria, all other things won’t be a problem.

- Miss Sylvia Arinze, Enugu * He should start first with petroleum products including the scam in the sector.

- Mr. Tolu Oyero, Warri, Delta State * Frankly speaking, majority of the leaders of APC are corruption personified and among the things GMB promised during campaign is to fight corruption. So Buhari should start his anti-corruption war from the top hierarchy of APC then move to general governance. I expect him to start by ensuring that public servants are accountable to the people and defaulters punished. Remove immunity, see change, period! - Mr. Jesse Chiemela Enwereuzo, Lekki, Lagos

* Tackle NEPA first.

- Mrs. Meg Dada, Educationist, Lagos * First, stolen money recovered can be used for better hospitals, and immediately oil blocks should be collected back. I have never seen a country where citizen or a family owns oil blocks. But that is going be difficult for GMB since most of the owners are northerners. - Mr. Olu Thommy, Amsterdam, The Netherlands * GMB should start from the formation of his cabinet. If people of integrity are assembled, a high-powered committee among them should be set up to recover our stolen money that is said to be in trillions. The culprits should be treated as armed robbers if found guilty for they are not different. With that money at hand, budget of the year can be suspended.

- Hon. Babale Maiungwa, U/Romi, Kaduna * There’s nothing like change. It is dead on arrival.

- Mrs. Pat Odigie, Canada * The change should start from us as Nigerians. We need attitudinal change. He should start by embarking on a moral and ethical revolution among Nigerians. As a people, we must change our thinking and way of doing things. Buhari alone cannot bring about change if we don’t change our attitude as a people.

- Mr. John Shiklam, Kaduna * Real countries are not built by chants of slogan. We can move forward really when we accept and accommodate our socioeconomic differences. We must recognise that the monthly assemblage in Abuja to share money is our Achilles’ heel and that Lagos, Enugu and Borno cannot cook and dish out similar menu to its residents. Nigeria must move away from this national rent system of governance, it’s not working and will not work. - Mr. Carl Okafor, THISDAY Newspapers, Abuja * He should declare emergency on power and security, and then reforms in the judiciary. - Mr. Feyisetan Kareem, Ogwashi-Ukwu, Delta State
