Delta, Bauchi First Ladies Pet Projects Bag Awards for Devt

The wife of the Delta state Governor, Mrs. Roli Uduaghan and her counterpar­t in Bauchi State, Mrs. Hauwa Yuguda, were among eight first ladies who bagged the Most Valuable Governors’ Wives Awards for their contributi­on to national developmen­t.

Other awardees are Wife of the FCT Minister, Hajiya Aisha Bala Mohammed; Wife of Imo State Governor, Mrs. Nkechi Rochas Okorocha; Wife of Kwara Governor, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed; Wife of Niger State Governor, Hajiya Jummai Babangida Aliyu; Wife of Ondo state Governor, Mrs. Olukemi Mimiko, and Wife of Zamfara state Governor, Hajiya Asma’u Abdulazeez Yari.

According to a statement issued by the Team Leader of the MVGWA, Mr. Tom Obulu, the awards would be conferred on the awardees at the 2015 edition holding May 19 in Abuja. He disclosed that the 36 governors’ wives and the FCT Minister’s wife were assessed by the public based on impact of their projects in their states.

The criteria adopted were sustainabi­lity, empowermen­t, impact, change agent and corporate branding (SEICC), Obulu said.

He explained that Bauchi first lady emerged from the North-east Zone with her sustainabl­e Change Your Disabiliti­es Initiative­s, while Delta State is bagging the award for her impactful Master Care Foundation from the South-south.

“FCT from North-central dazzled the region with her AlMuhibah Foundation and Imo State with her family changing project entitled Women of Divine Destiny Initiative. The others are Kwara State from the North-central with her benefiting project, the Life Empowered Anchors Hope Charity Foundation, Niger State from the North-central with her celebrativ­e Life Rehab Foundation, Ondo State from the South-west with her maternal advantaged Maternal Pulse Foundation, and Zamfara State with her helping Hannun Taimako Foundation,” the statement read.

Former First Lady/Chief Justice of Niger State, Justice Fati Abubakar is expected to deliver the keynote address.

The MVGWA, according to its organisers, is designed to lead a new phenomenon in the assessment and recognitio­n of the governors’ wives who are providing complement­ary achievemen­ts to the governors’ achievemen­ts.

The governors’ wives have become part of the democratic team that has been providing grassroots developmen­ts, hence, the institutio­n of this award, Obulu noted.
