IN PRAISE OF NASIR EL-RUFAI

-

The credibility of a man most times is weighed by his activities while carrying out his personal duties or an official duty assigned to him by either his superior or his people. When he discharged his duties diligently, people then value him, admire him, honour him and regard such a person as a man of credibility or integrity. Mallam Nasir el-Rufai outing as Director General, Bureau of Public Enterprises and Minister, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, had earned him public trust. The governor-elect of Kaduna State was honest, dedicated and always ready to take risks. He was hated by people who didn’t want the right thing to be done.

It would interest you to know that when Mallam el-Rufai was the DG, Bureau of Public Enterprises, he recruited his classmate who needed a job. But the classmate did not take his job seriously. After repeated warnings, he was fired. That is El-Rufai.

Before his appointment as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory by former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the city of Abuja was not looking good due to the fact that people built houses without following the Abuja master plan. Mallam El-rufai came in as Minister, demolished all the illegal houses built by both the rich and the poor. He was transparent in his work. The house of former National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, Mr. Amadu Ali, who was still in office, was demolished to show how transparent El-Rufai was. Some of the senators were affected as well. Mind you, senators were the ones that approved his appointment as the Minister for FCT, but he did not spare them when discharging his duty.

Now, as the governor -elect of Kaduna State who will take oath of office on May 29, 2015, after which he would officially assume office, all eyes are on him. People want to see him change Kaduna State; people what to see him develop the state, people want to see transparency and accountability in Kaduna, people want to see positive change that Mallam El-rufai would bring and they so much believe that he can do it because he has done it before.

But the people of Kaduna State should always remember that one tree cannot make a forest. Therefore, let them give him their maximum support and cooperation to enable him put the state in its right place. Yahaya Umar, FRCN, Abuja
