APC Government to Recover Stolen Funds
The Kaduna State governor-elect, Malam Nasir el-Rufai, yesterday disclosed that the incoming administration of the presidentelect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, would subtly asked politicians at the federal and state levels to refund money illegally gotten by them.
He said there was no doubt that the incoming administration would inherit huge debt piled by the outgoing government of President Goodluck Jonathan
Speaking when the executive members of the National Union of Textile Garments and Tailoring Workers of Nigeria (NUTGTWN) paid him a courtesy call in Kaduna, el-Rufai maintained that politicians who stole public funds must be ready to refund such monies after May 29, adding that those who are clean have no cause to fear.
He said the measure became imperative because the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government would inherit a bad situation after taking over in on May 29.
“We will politely ask those who stole government money to return the funds. This is because people who are in government now are there to work for themselves but the APC government is made up of people who are ready to work for the masses and betterment of the country.
“We will work with the textile union to ensure that lives of the average Nigerians get better,” he said.
The former minister also lamented the shameful state of the textile industries in Kaduna State, noting that his administration would revamp collapse industries.
El-Rufai declared that the current employment figure of 1,600 employees in the textile sector was unacceptable noting that the industries in Kaduna used to employ a total of about 33,000 workers.
He said the APC government would revive the textile industries since the sector will generate employment and impact on the lives of the people.
“We have met at a forum of northern governors-elect and we decided to ensure the revival of the textile industries.
“It is a shame that the largest economy in Africa imports textile materials from Senegal and other countries,” he said.
Speaking earlier, the president of the union, Oladele Hunsu, congratulated the governor-elect on his victory at the polls and urged him to do everything possible in ensuring that the textile industry us revived.
