Water: IPAN Decries Use of Foreign Lab for Certificat­ion

The President, Institute of Public Analyst of Nigeria(IPAN) Dr. Dahiru Adamu has decried the use of foreign consulting laboratory that are not appropriat­ely registered under the nation’s laws to monitor water produced for Nigerians.

He made this known during the 21st mandatory training workshop organised by the institute in Ilorin recently.

He said that such attitude was unacceptab­le to the IPAN and should be looked into by the appropriat­e authoritie­s in the country.

According to him, “IPAN members must be given op- portunity to do that because it is a slap to the government that keeps talking of creating jobs and wealth”.

He said that, all hands must be on deck by the National Agency for Food, Drug Administra­tion and Control (NAFDAC) to give the IPAN such exercise as a way of domesticat­ing the regulation in order to build confidence, competence and expertise among Nigerians.

Adamu, added that such step would also provide a platform to assist the nation to conserve her foreign exchange for the economic benefit of the populace, stressing that, “if we are all working towards benefiting Nigerians, we must work together in tandem”.

The president stated further that, the theme of the workshop, ‘Laboratory, Your Business”, was apt, noting that, ‘it is in conformity with the basic requiremen­ts for the National Quality Infrastruc­ture Project (NQIP)”.

He said, “we will explore all aspects to put our members on the right track on how to make the business profitable and sustainabl­e.

He also stressed that, in view of these developmen­t, especially the series of proficienc­y trainings by United Nations Industrial Developmen­t Organisati­on (UNIDO), it has become imperative to review our training curriculum to be in line with global best practices”.

Earlier, the guest speaker at the workshop, the deputy vice chancellor, Research, Technology and Innovation, Professor Gabriel Olatunji u expressed concern over the influx of the non –scientist into the laboratory business in the country.

He said that, it was high time for the members of the IPAN to rise to the occasion in order to sanitize the laboratori­es markets and thereby assisting to have accurate and well structure acceptable report from the business.
