Akwa Ibom APC Disowns Ex-governor, Attah
The Chairmen of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 31 local government areas of Akwa Ibom State have disassociated themselves from last week’s visit by a group led by the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Victor Attah, to the Presidentelect, General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd).
They said the group purporting to represent the Akwa Ibom chapter of the APC was actually stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).T he Victor Attah-led delegation visited Buhari last Friday, May 8 2015.
However, the chapter chairmen in a statement made available to journalists yesterday said: “The PDP delegation led by former state governor and a proud life member of the PDP Board of Trustees, Obong Victor Attah, masqueraded itself as that of the stakeholders of the APC in Akwa Ibom State, to confuse and mislead the president-elect, adding that the state chapter of the party was at the verge of a courtesy visit to Buhari.
“It would have been more dignifying for Attah-led team to have correctly informed Nigerians that a delegation of the Akwa Ibom State PDP leaders were on a visit to the president-elect and was gladly welcomed by the fatherly favour of the president-elect, whose policy is to be available to every Nigerian or group no matter how treacherous, altruistic or disguised they might be.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the APC Akwa Ibom chapter, like every other chapter of the party in Nigeria, is at the verge of a courtesy visit to their president-elect to be led by national officers, BoT members, national legislator and other elders of the party, to share with their presidentelect the joy, expectations and challenges of their victory at the just-concluded national polls.
“Commendable as the visit was in apprising the presidentelect of his immediate challenge in office regarding Akwa Ibom State, Attah and his group lied to the president-elect and Nigerians by trying to pass their delegation as that of the stakeholders of the APC Akwa Ibom State, a development that could confuse the presidentelect or at least mislead him.
“The APC, Akwa Ibom State chapter, wishes to state that there is no way a courtesy visit of the PDP BOT members, senators, gubernatorial and other candidates of the PDP for various offices in the justconcluded elections, and other elders of the PDP in Akwa Ibom State, neither of whom are card-carrying member of the APC nor registered in the register of the APC anywhere in Nigeria, pass for a visit of a delegation of APC Akwa Ibom State.
“Those who are perhaps playing the bogeyman by hijacking the state chapter of the party instead of nursing the casualty of the first electoral defeat of their party in years, are warned to keep off stirring needless confusion within the APC in Akwa Ibom State if they have lost out in the power struggle in their party.”
