Omololu Ogunmade Senate President, Senator David Mark, yesterday commiserated with the family of Nigeria’s first President, Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe, over the demise of Chief Chukwuma Bamidele Azikiwe, describing him as a distinguished diplomat.

Mark, in a condolence message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, PaulMumeh, commiseratedwiththe family of Azikiwe, government and people of Anambra State, saying the late Chukwuma lived an exemplary life by sustaining the legacies of his late father through selfless service.

He also said his demise had left a huge vacuum that would be difficult to fill, noting that the deceased died at the time the nation needed his services most.

He recalled the philanthropic gesture of the deceased which he said endeared him to his immediate community and beyond, recalling that the gesture earned him the title of “Owelle of Onitsha” conferred on him by the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Achebe.

“He (Chukwuma) was known for his hard work, selflessness and dedication to duty. This he brought to bear during his sojourn as an ambassador before he returned to private life,” Mark noted.

The Senate president urged the immediate family of the deceased to take solace in God, saying “this is a trying time in the history of the family but quick to pray for God’s divine protection and also to grant the late Chukwuma an eternal rest.”

Mark urged the government of Anambra State to give the late ChukwumaAzikweabefittingburial, concluding that “death is inevitable and will come when it shall.”
