They had a lot more than quality fashion, there was also the desire to empower, especially women to fill their dreams and so a fashion house, Kinabuti, located in Lagos, came up with the project, ‘Dare2Dream, a platform in which aspiring models from all over the country had the opportunity to achieve their dreams, serve as models and also took part in the behind the scenes filmed by the students from its creative incubator project.

Following last year successful launch of the Dare2dream project, the talent-contest co-produced by the Kinabuti and Pulse.ng to empower Nigerian youth, the fashion house early in the week launched its Dare2Dream (D2D) Reality Documentary show on television.

With recently launch, Kinabuti is about to release its first docu-reality series on Television. The 17 reality-episodes of 7mins in average are set to premiere in June on Dstv’s Africa Magic “Showcase”, directly followed by Spice TV, NTA, Cool TV and Wazobia TV. The series will later be aired as webisodes on Nigeria’s most popular entertainment news online platforms, which will allow millions of people to follow the full story from their mobile devices.

Creative Director, Kinabuti, Ms. Caterina Borttolussi said the project is all about inspiring the youths so that they can live their dreams. “We all have dreams and these dreams we have them when we are young but growing up we tend to forget them becoming somebody that we didn’t dream to be but just somebody we ended up being. So I think that you have to have passion for what you are doing and if we have passion for what we do, work hard and be persistent, you would end up living your dream. It is not going to be easy nor happen over night but it is a process. So this is what Dare 2 Dream is all about”, she noted.

Speaking further, Borttolussi said, “Modeling is what we use to tell a story but in reality, it is about transmitting good values of working hard, being persistent, resilience and passionate. These are values you can apply not just to modeling but also to every other field of endeavor. My father used to tell me to work harder that nothing good comes easy. So here we speak the language of the youths and we inspire them by bringing in personalities they would love to listen to and also those they might want to be and they have come to realise that every one that wants to be like those people, have to go through the same process; you have to sweat it!

The series, edited in fast-paced and timely manner by an MTV director, documents the experience of hundreds of students aspiring to become the face of FCMB Youth products for one year. Each and every episode carries the viewer on an inspiring journey of self-confidence and strength of mind. D2D brings a whole new dimension to boot camp with master classes delivered by seasoned professionals including Ladi Balogun, Eku Edewor, Toke Makinwa, Yoanna Pepper Chikiezie, Lola Omotayo-Okoye and Kemi Amushan making a real impact on the contestant’s inspiration and vision of success.

Dare2Dream is an interactive talent development platform set to empower youth by building skills and professional exposure in art and fashion. The project kicked off in October 2014 with the selection of aspiring models from the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), University of Uyo (UNIUYO) and University of Lagos (UNILAG), brought on a two week intensive bootcamp that culminated with a grand finale show held at the Federal Palace Hotel in VI, Lagos.

FCMB, Golden Vita, Nescafe, Lenovo, Federal Palace Hotel, Dana Air, Richard Coker Foundation and MAC proudly sponsored the Pulse.ng/Kinabuti D2D initiative.
