Facebook and She Leads

last week, brought together 60 women in the creative, media, journalism, entertainment and technology fields to network and discuss how social media is being used to build local brands and connect with users.

The event titled “Building Your Brand and Lifting Your Voice”, was hosted by Ebele Okobi (Head of Public Policy for Africa) and Ngozi Dozie (Head of Partnerships, West and Central Africa) for Facebook. During their first ever event for women influencers in Lagos, the two women met some of Lagos’ most inspiring women. They discussed Facebook’s mission to make the world more open and connected and the company’s desire to be a platform for the innovation, entrepreneurship and creative local content that make Nigeria such an exciting market and online community.

The representatives of Facebook listened to recommendations from the vocal and engaged group of women about how the Facebook family of platforms (including WhatsApp and Instagram) could be more relevant and valuable partners to Nigeria’s entrepreneurs, content creators and tech innovators.

During the networking and relationship building, the guests were treated to and endless flow of premium champagne brand; LaurentPerrier. Also present at the event was emerging shoe brand Thando’s Shoes (3rd position She Leads Africa Pitch Contest 2014) which were provided as complimentary gifts for all of the attendees. The fun, foldable flats were a big hit with the crowd as their stylish design and comfortable fit were perfect for these busy women on the go.

Social enterprise; She Leads Africa is dedicated to supporting high growth female entrepreneurs on the continent. This is the first of a series of events they have lined up all through the year to support women in as many fields as possible.
