Equity market records second day gain

Market pulse on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) today- Thursday May 14th 2015 was bullish as Brent June was up 19 cents at $67, having swung from $66.32 to $67.29.The equity market closed green today and recorded were positive performances from all the sectors.

Trading activities increased in volume as N356.6million shares worth N4.025billion in 4182 deals exchanged hands today. This is an increase from N350.8million shares worth N3.353billion in 4154 traded deals carried out on Wednesday. Topping in volume terms was UBA Plc., Zenith bank of Nigeria holdings Plc. and Chams Plc. While Zenith Plc and Guaranty trust bank of Nigeria holdings Plc ended trading as the most active stocks in value terms. The All Share Index (NSEASI) closed positive with a 0.61% (+205.88) increase to 34,414.18 from 34,208.30 the previous trading day. Market Capitalization appreciated in tandem to N11.688 trillion from N11.617 trillion the prior trading day. The Thisday BGL 50 Index also closed positive with a 0.57% increase to close at 144.06 from 143.25 the previous trading day, while its market capitalization stood at N10.646 trillion from N10.586 trillion the previous trading day.

A total number of 25 stocks gained on the bourse today while 18 stocks declined, leaving 89 stocks unchanged. Forte Oil Plc. emerged the toast of investors as it topped the Thisday BGL 50 Index gainers’ list with a gain of 5.00% to close at N 159.60per share. It was followed by Presco Plc with a gain of 3.74 % to close at N 29.99per share. Others on the gainers list include 7-Up Bottling Comp. Plc. Custodian And Allied Insurance Plc and Flour Mills Nig. Plc. On the decliners’ list, Skye Bank Plc led with a loss of -8.82% to close at N 2.17per share. It was followed by Honeywell Flour Mill Plc with a loss of -3.95% to close at N 3.65per share. Others on the losers list include; National Salt Co. Nig. Plc. Diamond Bank Plc and Transnational Corporation Of Nigeria Plc
