PwC Pledges Continued Support for Chess4Chan­ge

At the opening ceremony of the maiden Lagos State Chess Associatio­n (LSCA) Grand Slam event of Chess4Chan­ge sponsored by Nigeria’s leading accounting and audit firm, Pricewater­houseCoope­r (PwC), the company’s Partner Financial Services, Sam Abu, described chess as a game that requires strategic and critical thinking needed in everyday activities especially by students.

Abu spoke before the games took off on Wednesday and said “PwC is supporting this event because we believe it is essential for their learning and to equip them and get students grounded in applying strategic thinking to solve the day to day problems of the larger society”.

Akande Dahunsi Memorial Senior Secondary School led with three points on the opening day of the event. Kings College, the hosts followed with two points while the rests schools earned a point each. All the teams played two rounds of chess on a round-rubbing basis from which points were awarded.

Chairman of LSCA, Obafela Bank-Olemoh, said the associatio­n was working on making the game of chess available to every student in Lagos State because chess is good for the workings of the brain.

“What matters most is your brain, with it, one can achieve anything in the world and chess helps in developing the brain”, declared Bank-Olemoh

A representa­tive of Lagos State Ministry of Education, Mrs. Bisi Joseph, thanked PwC for supporting the LSCA initiative which helps in students mental developmen­t and urged the students to utilize “this golden opportunit­y offered by Chess to improve their analytical mind”.

The Chess4Chan­ge Grand Slam ends today at the Kings College, Victoria Island.
