Eguma Seeks to End Dolphins Three Years Enyimba Jinx

- China Acheruo

Dolphins Coach, Stanley Eguma, is hopeful he will break the jinx around Enyimba and win in Port Harcourt on Sunday in one of the Match Day 9 fixtures of the Glo Premier League.

Eguma has not beaten Enyimba since 2011 when he won 2-1 in the league in Port Harcourt and eight games have passed between then and now. He hopes this will be his year.

“We are looking forward to a good game. Enyimba is a stubborn and difficult opponent and we have no choice but to win, considering we drew our last home game in the League,” Eguma said.

Having lost to Enyimba twice last year in Aba and at the Federation Cup final, Eguma said Dolphins have strategised for the game.

“They will come strongly but at the end we hope to pick the three points. We are not under any pressure. The fact is just that we need to start picking points at home so we must work above our capacity. We will get it right. We cannot afford to drop two home games in a row and the players know this so we are hopeful,” Eguma enthused.

Last season, it was a tale of two strikers, Mfon Udoh of Enyimba and Emem Eduok of Dolphins, but with Emem gone and Udoh still in Aba, what will Eguma do?

“I have always said the days of Emem Eduok are gone. He served us well and has moved on in his career.

“Dolphins have had other great players in their ranks and they were replaced when they left. Emem’s replacement will come. Without Emem we can beat Enyimba, but we equally have other good players that will do the job.”

In the absence of Emem, Dolphins must watch out for Mfon Udoh who scored against them in Port Harcourt and in Lagos during the Federation Cup final, but again, Eguma says there is no cause for alarm.

“My players know Mfon so there won’t be any special plan for him. All they have to do is mark him just like any other Enyimba player. If you do not lose concentration on him, I do not think he has anything to offer,” Eguma said.
