Mervyn King to Speak at 2015 AR-CSR
AAfter successful editions of the Africa CEO Round-table & Conference on Corporate Sustainability & Responsibility, the organisers have concluded the plan for the 2015 edition with the promise that it would be a reference point for stakeholders. To this end, Prof. Mervyn King, lawyer, academic, former Supreme Court judge and corporate governance expert has been confirmed as Keynote speaker and headliner at the conference. King is also the chairman of the King Committee on Corporate Governance in South Africa, and current Chairman, IIRC.
“This year’s event is particularly significant not just because it is taking place in Lagos but because it marks the fifth anniversary of the The AR-CSR, which has become the biggest platform for discussing issues of Sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility, as well as the enhancement of a public-private synergy for the attainment of a credible business environment in Africa,” a statement by the conveners, ThistlePraxis Consulting stated.
The statement indicated that the theme of the conference will be: ‘From Corporate Governance to Sustainable Governance.” It was also stated that the conference speakers and panellists and participants will seek to interrogate some of the following issues: “What is the role of corporate governance in relation to sustainability?” “What is the link between the individual pillars of sustainable development and corporate governance?” “Is there a nexus between the economic, environmental performance, social performance and corporate governance of an organisation?” amongst others.
Other confirmed speakers aside Profes- sor King are: Lecturer, College Of Law, Igbinedion University, Nigeria, Dr. Nat Ofo; Partner, Sustainable Square, Eric Hensel; CEO, Next Generation Consultants South Africa, Reana Rossouw; and the CEO, Rwanda Governance Board, Prof. SHYAKA Anastase. Others are; Director, Falcon Corporation; Audrey Joe-Ezigbo, CEO, Global CSR, Sune Skadegaard Thorsen and Partner, Sustainable Square, Monaem Ben Lellahom.
On the choice of Prof. King, the statement said: “We have chosen Prof. King as our Keynote Speaker because he is the preeminent authority on the subject and we hope that his address will explore public concerns and practical issues deeply while attempting to rethink theoretical debates and institutional policies critically in the broad area of corporate responsibility, corporate governance and sustainability around the world.”
